The UNJJ Competition & Congress

The United Nations of Ju-Jitsu was formed in 1991 when a group of Ju-Jitsu friends came together for a meeting held in Chiny, Belgium.

For many years the persons present had worked together within the world body that they were previous members of and had realised that apart from their common interest of Ju-Jitsu, that they also had a common desire. This being to form a Ju-Jitsu Association based primarily on friendship.

The bi-annual competition and congress is one way to challenge any motivate the participants equally. A good preparation in training is rewarded on the competition day with appropriate recognition of performance through a bronze, silver, or even gold medal. However, this was not always the case: In traditional Jiu Jitsu, there was no competitive sport; the samurai used this martial art solely for unarmed self-defense.

The pursuit of inner, mental perfection should remain the primary focus, with the competition seen merely as one of many forms of practice. In this context, neither defeat nor victory over others should be the main goal. Instead, it is about the journey to the competition and the skills and experiences gained along the way.
